Goal: Produce Subject + Verb + Object Sentences

Sample Goal:

Client will produce sentences of the subject + verb + object form to describe pictures with at least 80% accuracy on 3 consecutive data collection days.

Therapy Phases:

  1. Produce Verb + Object Phrases: Client will use picture cues to produce phrases of the following structure with at least 80% accuracy: verb + article “a” + object (ex: “throw a ball”).
  2. Produce Subject + Verb Phrases: Client will use picture cues to produce phrases of the following structure with at least 80% accuracy: subject + verb + 3rd person singular -s / -es (ex: “She throws”).
  3. Produce Subject + Verb + Object Sentences: Client will use picture cues to produce sentences of the following structure with at least 80% accuracy: subject + verb + 3rd person singular -s / -es + article “a” + object (ex: “She throws a ball”).

What’s Next?

  • Once the client is able to produce this sentence structure on command, you can work on encouraging longer sentences like this in conversation by using expansions (repeating back what the client has said in spontaneous speech and adding a word or grammatical marker to expand the utterance).
