Using Your Own Device
-
-
- Need parental permission for the exact purpose you will be using it for
- Need a secure way to protect the videos once taken (don’t just save them on your smart phone!)
- Need to make sure no other HIPAA-protected children are in the video
- Don’t show it to anyone who doesn’t have HIPAA permission to watch it
-
Using the Child’s Device
-
-
- Still need parent permission with expressly-written consent about how the videos will be used and where they will be saved (so that others don’t accidentally see them)
- Need to make sure no other HIPAA-protected children are in the video
-
Ways to Use Video Recording:
-
- To track progress over time
- To send home homework
- To communicate with parents and share successes
- To show the child evidence of a behavior that he doesn’t know he’s doing
- To increase self-awareness and carry-over
- To provide appropriate models for the child to follow (such as by using editing to take out mistakes so the final performance looks flawless)
