• Use manipulatives to represent each sound in the word.  Practice blending and segmenting the word
• Using the manipulatives, break the word apart in different ways.  Practice each segment of the word separately
• Build the word up from the last sound toward the beginning.  Use the manipulatives from above
• Build the word up from the first sound toward the end
