  1. Come up with a signal
-such as laying a hand on you or holding your pinky
  2. Explain that sometimes you have to wait to talk to mom and show the signal that tells mom you’re waiting
  3. Take a picture of the child doing the signal
  4. Print off the picture and write a caption that says “If I want to talk to Mom or Dad, I quietly walk up and   (write what the signal is)  . Then I wait quietly until mom mom or dad is ready to talk.”
  5. Show the child the picture and talk about it often
  6. The next time the child interrupts you, remind him to use the signal.  When he does, respond immediately (don’t make him wait.)
  7. Once he is consistently remembering to use the signal, start making him wait a little longer each time.
