- Come up with a signal
-such as laying a hand on you or holding your pinky - Explain that sometimes you have to wait to talk to mom and show the signal that tells mom you’re waiting
- Take a picture of the child doing the signal
- Print off the picture and write a caption that says “If I want to talk to Mom or Dad, I quietly walk up and (write what the signal is) . Then I wait quietly until mom mom or dad is ready to talk.”
- Show the child the picture and talk about it often
- The next time the child interrupts you, remind him to use the signal. When he does, respond immediately (don’t make him wait.)
- Once he is consistently remembering to use the signal, start making him wait a little longer each time.
