1. Check to see if phonological awareness is still in tact. If not, work on those:

2. Teach Use of Graphic Organizers if they need help with organizing
3. Encourage them to talk as they write and re-read their writing before submitting
4. Teach the student to use compensatory tools and to advocate for himself
- Record lectures or do verbal note-taking
- Use spelling resources like pocket dictionaries, electronic dictionaries, or smart phone apps
- Have another student take notes on carbon paper
- Make use of paper-editing services (through the school or through friends/family)
- Ask for extra time on written assignments
- Request to submit assignments typed instead of hand-written if handwriting or fatigue are involved
